TKE Leadership Academy XX
“There are no great limits to growthbecause there are no limits of human intelligence, imagination, and wonder.” Words from one of TKE’s most prestigious Fraters, Ronald Reagan lived these words each day. Upon conception of the Leadership Academy, it has been TKE’s aim to continue the tradition of cultivating leaders by providing the tools and practice in a controlled environment. Undergraduate Fraters are selected each year from a talented pool of applicants to come from universities and colleges across the United States and Canada and converge at Bradford Woods near Indianapolis. Leadership Academy XX in 2006 saw a record number of applicants for the distinction to attend, but only 28 could be afforded the opportunity to participate this year. Attention in 2006 was shifted to a pilot program that allowed two groups, Nu Chapter (University of California- Berkeley) and Beta- Beta Chapter (North Carolina State University), to bring three members each. The idea is that with a few men in attendance they could better effect change in their chapters. This is potentially where the Leadership Academy will direct its efforts in the future if further funding and interest is found. The focus given to attendees was that to truly lead others, they must first know themselves. Only by developing a true understanding of their personal values, and the values of the Fraternity, can they truly begin the journey of leadership in TKE and beyond. The National Founders were shown as the prime examples of leadership styles to challenge the current process and inspire their members to have a shared vision for the future vitality of the chapter. Attendees were challenged each day of the week mentally, physically, and spiritually to grow as men and Fraters in the Bond.
